A very generous donation from Aurum Ceramic Group of Companies allowed the original wet/plaster lab, located in the north end of the John B Macdonald Building (JBM) down the hall from the former dental clinic, to be completely renovated.
What was once a rather embarrassing old space that no longer met the educational needs of the students—and in many cases had equipment that did not work well enough to complete the necessary lab activities to support patient care—has been transformed into a modern, clean and functional facility to support the curriculum and the oral health clinic.
The renovated wet/plaster lab in the John B Macdonald Building is now called the Aurum Ceramic Plaster Laboratory.
Now called the Aurum Ceramic Plaster Laboratory, the lab is an optimum learning environment and is heavily used by second-, third- and fourth-year dental students to pour study casts, mount casts on articulators, trim models as well as to perform instrument maintenance and sharpening. This lab work supports both patient care such as for diagnostics and educational objectives such as for the preparation of case presentations.
