Application Process

The Faculty of Dentistry is accepting applications to the Dental Specialty Assessment & Training Program (DSATP) for the 2025-26 program in the following disciplines: Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry and Periodontics.

Applications to be open June 18, 2024.

Application Form

The deadline for fully documented applications is January 15th for applications of the same year.

Application Fee

Non-refundable Application Fee: $510.00 CDN subject to change without notice.

Reference Letters

Three (3) references are required with the application. Referees must be a certified specialist or full-time academic member, domestic or international who are prepared to provide a report on your academic ability and qualifications. A referee may be academic, professional, or personal.

Letters of reference can be uploaded to the application system using an institutional or government email address only, no free mail address are accepted.  Alternatively, letters of reference can be mailed directly from the source to the Admissions Office, Faculty of Dentistry in sealed and endorsed official source envelopes.

Required Application Documentation

Fully documented applications must be received by the Faculty of Dentistry Admissions office by the January 15th application deadline. Early submission of the application and supporting documentation is strongly encouraged to ensure all requirements are met.

Along with the online application and fee, a fully documented application must include:

  • Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residence (PR).
  • One (1) official copy of university transcripts from all colleges and universities attended sent from source in sealed and endorsed envelopes (except UBC transcripts).
  • One (1) official copy of the degree certificate if the official transcript does not indicate the degree received and degree conferral date.
  • If university transcripts and degree certificates are issued in a language other than English, a literal English translation of one (1) set of official transcripts (and degree certificates if necessary) must be obtained from the issuing University’s translation service. Send both the original language and literal English translation transcripts in sealed envelopes endorsed by the issuing university.
  • We are also currently accepting official electronic transcripts and degree certificates sent from the source. Candidates sending their transcripts and degree certificates to our office electronically must have their post-secondary institution(s) e-mail the official transcripts and degree certificates directly to us from their post-secondary institutional e-mail address at admissions@dentistry.ubc.ca
  • Dental Specialty Core Knowledge Examination (DSCKE) administered by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB), and arrange for your results to be forwarded directly to the Admissions Office. The DSCKE exam result is valid if dated within 36 months prior to the application deadline of the cycle applying to. Beginning in the application cycle for 2025, in the absence of a DSCKE examination score, we will require applicants write the Advanced Dental Admission Test (ADAT).  The ADAT exam is available every day from March 1 – August 31. Transcripts/Diplomas must be evaluated through the Educational Credential Evaluation (ECE) to be eligible to write the ADAT. Please arrange to send an official copy of the ECE Report and ADAT scores to our Admissions Office at admissions@dentistry.ubc.ca directly from source.
  • Copy of the NDEB score (if applicable).
  • A TOEFL or IELTS score sheet taken within twenty-four (24) months prior to the application deadline if the qualifying degree was received from a country in which English is not the primary language.
  • Three (3) reference letters from a certified specialist or full-time academic member, domestic or international.
  • A current curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Personal statement (maximum 500 words).
