On July 18, 2016, 32 dental students from six Chinese universities* arrived in Vancouver to participate in a four-week educational program in the UBC Faculty of Dentistry. This was the third time Dentistry offered courses in UBC’s Vancouver Summer Program, an initiative of the Office of the Provost and Vice President Academic.
The educational program consisted of a multidisciplinary course in dental caries and oral cancer. Read the course descriptions here >>
In addition, the course included other disciplines of dentistry: geriatric dentistry, oral pathology, oral medicine, oral diagnosis, oral radiology, maxillofacial prosthesis, pediatric dentistry, endodontics, and forensic odontology.
All students successfully completed the program.

Nineteen faculty members from UBC Dentistry (Drs. Jolanta Aleksejuniene, Bertrand Chan, Nirpjit Dosanjh, Lamia El Adwar, Denise Lalonde, David MacDonald, Adriana Manso, Kavita Mathu-Maju, Samson Ng, Caroline Nguyen, Komkham Pattanaporn, Catherine Poh, Clive Roberts, Rajan Saini, Ya Shen, David Sweet, Eli Whitney, Chris Wyatt, and Lewei Zhang) contributed to the course.
The Vancouver Summer Programs in Dentistry was coordinated by Dr. Ravindra Shah, Director of International Relations.
Also, during their stay, the students attended a multicultural workshop, visited the Museum of Anthropology, and attended a graduate education fair and a sports festival at UBC. They also participated in demonstrations at the Centre for High-Throughput Phenogenomics.
