Congratulations to Dr. Ahmed Hieawy and Tala Maragha, recipients of this year’s Killam Teaching Prize and Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award.
Dr. Ahmed Hieawy has been awarded a Killam Teaching Prize in recognition of his outstanding achievement as a teacher. As an Associate Professor of Endodontics and Director of the Undergraduate Endodontic Program at UBC Dentistry, Dr. Hieawy has considerably improved the endodontics program by transforming students’ clinical and simulation educational experience. He has received numerous teaching excellence awards and consistently demonstrates the qualities of an outstanding instructor and mentor.
Tala Maragha (PhD Year 3) received a Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for outstanding teaching, research and service to the community. Tala works with Dr. HsingChi von Bergmann to explore the elements that shape the well-being of students in the early years of oral health sciences programs. She has taken on several teaching roles in clinical and laboratory learning environments, focusing on bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge in basic sciences and clinical practice.
